Intro Post: How I plan to get my WLE: October 26th, 2010

The type of internship that I am looking for is somewhere in the Medical Field or something that has to do with teaching. So far, I have talked to a potential mentor. What they will have me do for their internship is go to local elementary schools during and after school and teach them things that would normally be taught at Sunday School. I have already talked to this mentor and they said that they would let me join the program but I haven't heard back from them because they have been too busy to respond. The only problem with this internship is that it starts sometime in November. I plan to use resourceful problem solving during this process because I will find something else to do until the internship is ready to have me come in.

Blog Post: A Day at Santa Clara University

Instead of going to my Internship, I went on the over night trip to Santa Clara University with other top Seniors at Impact. When we got there, we went to one of the dorms and put our stuff down in the common room where we were going to sleep. The first thing that we did when we went there was meet our hosts and shadow them for 2 classes. My host's name was Shae and I followed her in her Understanding Religion class and her Biology class. In the Understanding Religion class we watched a movie about Palestinians and Israelis. For the Biology class, I was really lost because they were teaching things that I've never even heard before. After that, we went to eat lunch at the dining area for the students. There were a lot of places where you could get food and there were so many students surrounding us. After wards, we went on a tour around the campus. Next, we asked questions to a panel of students that attended Santa Clara. Then finally, we had dinner. Later in the day, went to a basketball game, had time to wander around the campus and night and then we went to sleep in the dorm's common room. This trip was a really fun experience. The trip has opened my eyes to see how much I like Santa Clara University and now I am actually considering on attending. I really like how the class sizes were small and that professors actually knew their student's name. In college, class sizes tend to be big with about 100 students per class and professors don't really care about you. I also like how Santa Clara had a nice, clean campus with many things to get involved. I am glad that I went on this over-night trip because it taught me a lot and  I had a lot of fun while doing so.

Blog Post

Since I did not go to my internship on this day, I checked in with Ms. Galvan and told her what I should do. She suggested that for this day only, that I go to some type of work place. So I asked my mom if I could go to her work for the day. She works in San Jose at Mt. Pleasant Nursing Center -- the place where I interned last year. On the morning I was supposed to go, she told me that I couldn't come to work with her that day because the State was doing a survey on the facility and that if I went, they would get a bad report because I do not officially work there. Because of that, I had to stay home.
Even though I spent the day at the house, I did not spend it unproductively. While I was there, I was doing homework and trying to find an internship that would be consistent and dependable. I knew that my sister's boyfriend worked at a big company so I decided to ask him if I could intern there with him. I asked and he said yes. I am currently no longer looking for an internship because I found one at Restoration Management Company. My Mentor's name is Nolan Takata and he is the Safety Manager's Assistant. For the WLE fridays to come, I will be doing the work that he does such as running errands and making sure that everything is okay with the company. I know that I have to make up a lot of hours since I haven't been to WLE fridays, but I plan to do that over the break.
